Bank of America Charitable Foundation awards grant
June 30, 2009 -- World Medical Relief received $15,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Inc. for the Affordable Prescriptions Program.
This program provides low-income citizens with the opportunity to obtain their medicines for a low fee. People who are accepted into the program are ineligible for Medicaid, have no prescription insurance coverage, and do not have the financial resources to pay for their medicines. They may also be seniors on Medicare Part D who have reached the 'donut hole' and cannot afford out-of-pocket expenses until the catastrophic threshold has been reached.
Homeless individuals and families can now participate in the program without having an actual address for shipping; they pick them up in person and pay for the medicines on-site. WMR also fills prescriptions for walk-ins and people with no incomes (i.e. job loss, unemployment ended, etc.) There are certain guidelines and criteria for these people to access the program.
According to the Bank of America the Charitable Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunity for all in its commitment to its communities. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation sees the support to organizations like World Medical Relief, Inc. which provide opportunity and improve the quality of life in our communities, as key to the strategy to build capacities that truly make a difference.
