Rotarian Dennis Torp New Board Chair
Detroit, Michigan- On Tuesday, April 28, Dennis Torp from Harrison Township, Michigan was elected unanimously as new chair of the fifteen member Board of Directors of World Medical Relief (WMR). He has been a member of the WMR Board for seven years. Prior to this election, he served as vice-chair. Torp said, "It's a privilege to be chairman of this very engaged and enthusiastic board, and it gives me a greater opportunity to realize my personal motto: 'It is better to give than receive.'
Torp is particularly interested in the collaboration between World Medical Relief and Rotary districts all over the world. Many requests for shipments of medical equipment and supplies are sponsored by local Rotary groups in recipient countries and Rotary representatives in the United States. Torp wants to promote these partnerships by working with the Rotary International Foundation for matching grants. He also has a great desire to expand World Medical Relief's impact on local communities in partnership with local Rotary clubs.
Mr. Torp, who is compliance manager at Metlife, brings with him a wealth of non-profit governing experience. He is a past member of the United Foundation Allocation board of March of Dimes and is former Governor of Rotary District 6380. He has served as president for both the Warren and Sterling Heights Rotary Clubs. He currently chairs the Clinton Township Rotary club.
