Blood Glucose Monitor
A blood sugar monitor will allow you to see the amount of sugar in your blood at any given time. Diabetic patients should take their blood sugar at least once a day, but those that are really struggling with diabetes may have to take it 5 or more times per day. This may seem like a lot, but it’s essential to living a complete lifestyle with diabetes
Your blood glucose monitor is a stand alone device, but it will also require a lancing device, lancets, test strips, and alcohol wipes. Lancets will be used with your lancing device to draw blood from your finger, and the test strips will be used with your blood glucose meter to absorb and analyze that blood. The alcohol wipes will be used to clean your finger before beginning. Watch the video below to become familiar with a lancing device and a blood glucose monitor.
If you don’t check your blood sugar often enough, you risk your sugar dropping too low. This can result in dizziness, confusion, blurred vision, and fainting. Without regular blood sugar checks, these symptoms could strike at any time.
