General Physical Activity
General physical activity is the light activity you do throughout the day in between sitting. This activity includes standing, walking, vacuuming, mowing the lawn, and gardening among other things. Essentially, any normal activity you do throughout the day!
This type of activity is shown to improve glucose utilization and glycemic control. All it takes is 5 minutes of general physical activity for every 30 minutes of sitting. If you work an office job, take a walk around the office every half hour. . If you have some free time, try to spend it doing work around the house instead of watching TV. If you are watching TV, stand and stretch during the commercials. These activities will not only improve your blood glucose, but over time you will feel stronger and more fit.
