The plight of Venezuela and the humanitarian relief efforts sponsored by Venezuelans living in Michigan is the focus of the concert taking place at the International Institute, on Monday, June 25, 2018. The Institute is located on 111 East Kirby Street, Detroit, MI 48202.
“The World Got Talent, a concert presented every year by The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit Global Education Department, is a televised fundraiser concert to support local and international children.
Due to the horrendous humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, it was decided to dedicate this year’s concert to raising money for nutrition for the malnourished children in Venezuela who live in extreme poverty due to the country’s internal turmoil. Recently, the New York Times painted a shocking portrait of life in present-day Venezuela, especially for the poor. Dying infants are turned away from hospitals – 63 percent of which operate without baby formula.
The proceeds of the event will go to the Humanitarian Relief Program for Venezuela which is planning to sponsor a 40 foot container through partner agency World Medical Relief with baby formula, medical equipment and supplies for community run clinics in Venezuela.
The concert features Mariana Risquez, the “New Queen of Latin Soul”, Mama Ayi (African American Dance Company), Sudlta (Indian Dance company), Cissi Lin (Chinese Dance Company) and other performing artists. Representatives of the Humanitarian Relief Program for Venezuela are available to give first hand eye witness information about the situation in Venezuela.
Tickets for the event are $20/per person. Student with ID $12. If so desired, concert visitors are welcome to bring baby formula to donate with an expiration date of at minimum December 2018. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
