2017 was a great year for World Medical Relief and that’s because of donations of monetary funds and time from you, our gracious supporters. So, to say thanks, here are some tips for tax season for all of your hard work. Happy New Year and happy tax season!

In order to deduct out-of-pocket expenses, costs must be:

  • Unreimbursed

  • Connect directly to the organization’s services

  • The result from the specific services you provide

  • Be separate from any personal expenses

Travel expenses can include:

Deductions (Non-Allowable):

  • Air, rail, bus

  • Car expenses

  • Lodging costs

  • Meals/food costs

  • Taxi (transportation from airport or station to your lodging)

  • Value of time or service: when you donate time to a charity, you are unable to deduct the value of this work as well as any lost income

  • Certain travel expenses: some expenses are not eligible for deductions such as time spent for recreation or vacation
